INTERNATIONAL DAY OF NON-VIOLENCE – OCTOBER 2, 2024

Peace in Our Hearts, Non-Violence in Our Actions: NECO Celebrates International Day of Non-Violence

On October 2, the international community comes together to celebrate the International Day of Non-Violence, an opportunity to reaffirm our commitment to peace and non-violence.

The National Exécutive Organizing Committee (NECO) of the 11th Peace Games Cameroon 2025 joins this celebration to promote a culture of peace and non-violence worldwide.

Non-violence, an ideal championed by Mahatma Gandhi, is a fundamental principle for building a more just and peaceful world. The UN General Assembly instituted this day in 2007 to honor Gandhi’s memory and his commitment to non-violence. NECO shares this vision and works to promote values of peace, tolerance, and understanding.

The 11th Peace Games Cameroon 2025 offer a unique opportunity to gather nations worldwide to celebrate peace and non-violence. NECO remains convinced that sports can be a powerful tool to promote peace and understanding among peoples.

To achieve this goal, NECO relies on the eight axes of work proposed by the UN to strengthen the culture of peace:

  • Peace Education: training young people in non-violence and tolerance
  • Sustainable Economic and Social Development: fighting poverty and inequalities
  • Human Rights: protecting human dignity
  • Gender Equality: promoting equal opportunities for all
  • Democratic Participation: encouraging citizen participation
  • Understanding, Tolerance, and Solidarity: fostering dialogue and cooperation
  • Participatory Communication and Free Flow of Information: promoting transparency and freedom of expression
  • International Peace and Security: strengthening international cooperation for peace

In celebrating this International Day of Non-Violence, NECO, through its President, invites all Cameroonians and nations worldwide to join this movement for sustainable peace and active non-violence.

<< Peace is a fundamental human right. It is our collective responsibility to defend and promote it.>> Mohamadou Atikou Kalda
